2026 Alberta Summer Games

2026 Alberta Summer Games  Community Host is Strathcona County

The Minister of Tourism and Sport Joseph Schow made the announcement this afternoon in Sherwood Park along with Rod Frank, Mayor of Strathcona County.

Alberta’s government recognizes that keeping Albertans active and encouraging safe and welcoming participation in their favourite sport is essential to their physical and mental well-being. The Alberta Games have been a proud part of the sport community in Alberta for almost 50 years and we’re committed to ensuring the success of the games for years to come.

The Alberta Summer Games are more than sports competitions. For host communities, they leave a legacy of enhanced infrastructure, trained volunteers and tourism revenue. For athletes, the games teach teamwork, build confidence and promote healthy lifestyles that can last well into adulthood.”

Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport

Athletes aged 11-16 will compete in a variety of individual and team sports at the Alberta Summer Games. Participants qualify to attend the games through various zone playoffs and selections held throughout the province.

The host society in Strathcona County  has previously hosted the games in 1987 and 2000 and for the 2026 games will coordinate with and be supported by Alberta’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Branch.

Alberta’s government will provide an $820,000 operating grant to the host society to support the 2026 Alberta Summer Games. The games are expected to generate about $3 million in economic impact in Strathcona County.
